The background to Decom North Sea
Decom North Sea is a new UK-based industry forum set up in 2009 to maximise the business opportunities presented by North Sea decommissioning.
The main objective of the new forum is to deliver practical industry support to improve knowledge transfer and stimulate collaborative activities across the North Sea supply chain. This will be achieved by the delivery of effective member events, activities and information services.
Decom North Sea has been set up as one of the main outcomes of a government-funded industry consultation process held in Aberdeen, Stavanger, Lerwick and Bergen between June 2008 and February 2009.
During this consultation, many service companies, contractors and operators all confirmed the demand for a dedicated supply-chain decommissioning forum to unify the disparate clusters of bodies and initiatives in the North Sea decommissioning market and increase business opportunities for its members.
Funding for Decom North Sea has been secured from Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the UK government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
