The finalists have been announced for the 2016 ICoTA Innovation Award.  The Award recognises technical innovation in well intervention and coiled tube technology.

Elliot Kinch, Chair of ICoTA European Chapter said “We have been hugely encouraged by the calibre of entries received this year.   Our finalists have demonstrated technological innovation, cost savings, collaboration and risk mitigation.  It’s important we encourage all of this in the current climate so that we can continue to extend the life of the North Sea and secure the future success of our industry.”

Our independent expert judges had the difficult task of shortlisting the finalists to three and we can announce that the finalists are:

CannSeal
Centrica / Island Offshore
Shell / Helix / Altus Intervention

Bengt Gunnarsson commented “For CannSeal, it’s a great honour to be nominated as one of three finalists for the ICoTA Innovation Award. It has been a long road to test and qualify the CannSeal technology. With considerable contribution from several Oil Companies, in particular Maersk Oil, the field trial was a great success achieving the goals set by the Operator. We are delighted that ICoTA recognize our technology and success story in this very tough competition.”

Espen Kopperud, Project Manager for Centrica said “It’s a great honour to be nominated as one of three finalists for the ICoTA Innovation Award. It was the first time this method was used in the oil and gas industry, and it was a great success. We finished the operation ahead of time, we did it safer and at nearly half the cost of regular drilling operations. We are delighted that ICoTA recognise our success story in this very tough competition.”

Steve Nairn, VP of Helix Well Ops (U.K.) Limited, commented that “Well Ops is honoured to have been recognised by ICoTA for the European Chapter Innovation Award and for all the hard work, investment and innovation over the many years that it’s taken to reach this milestone.  We believe that in proving coiled tubing operations are now possible from our LWI vessel, we can offer more options to our clients in future endeavours.”

This year’s Innovation Award will be presented at the SPE ICoTA Well Intervention Conference on 9th November at the AECC. Bookings for the Conference, sponsored by TAQA, BP and Tenaris are now open by visiting www.icota-europe.com. Delegates can take advantage of the early bird booking fees in operation until 14 October.
