Babcock has completed its second walk to work (W2W) contract with Total E&P UK.

In the seven months from March to September 2014, more than 18,000 safe personnel transfers to Total's offshore platforms were completed. This is a record for any single W2W project in the Central North Sea.

The project enabled Total to complete commissioning activity on the Elgin B and West Franklin Wellhead platforms which form part of the West Franklin Phase 2 project, situated in the Elgin/Franklin Field approximately 240km east of Aberdeen.

Total's Client Representative, Anderson Foster, said, "Total is delighted with the outcome of this project. Babcock's approach allowed us to accommodate up to 78 personnel in the field within normal offshore rotas. It provided safe access to our offshore assets for completion of construction and commissioning activities.

"Babcock's W2W solution ensured, most importantly, that each personnel transfer was 'safe home' every time."

Babcock's Contractor Representative, Robert McCaig, said, "We delivered a turnkey project management solution to meet our client's requirements.

On a turnkey basis, Babcock engineered the solution, chartered the specialist vessel and access equipment, and managed the installation and logistics ensuring DNV Class approval and maintenance of best safety practice. The mobilisation and demobilisation of the project was conducted at Babcock's Rosyth Marine facility.''

During the project Babcock offshore and onshore management fully supported the onboard team, allowing Total to be fully focused on work scope completion on the platforms.

This contract follows an earlier successful W2W project for Total and Babcock, completed in 2013.
